Matthew Abendroth, DO

ABFM, ABLM, ABIOM, IFMCP
Founder, Forecast Precision Medicine

Dr. Matthew Abendroth is a quadruple board-certified physician (Family Medicine, Lifestyle Medicine, Integrative Medicine, and Functional Medicine) and the founder of Forecast Precision Medicine. Born and raised in Urbandale, he completed his undergraduate studies in Washington State before returning to Iowa for medical school at Des Moines University.

After completing his Family Medicine residency at Iowa Lutheran Hospital, Dr. Abendroth worked at UnityPoint Clinic in Urbandale. During this time, he earned board certification in Lifestyle Medicine through the American Board of Lifestyle Medicine.

In 2020, he left UnityPoint and founded Sana Vita Health, a concierge Direct Primary Care clinic that solved many of the access and time constraints of conventional insurance-based medicine. But despite longer visits and more personalized care, he felt something was still missing — namely, the full spectrum of diagnostic and therapeutic tools needed to truly optimize health and extend healthspan.

In 2022, he closed Sana Vita and began an educational sabbatical while moonlighting in critical access hospital emergency departments across Iowa. He completed a fellowship in Integrative Medicine through the University of Arizona and earned certification in Functional Medicine through the Institute for Functional Medicine. He is currently a fellow with the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine.

Dr. Abendroth’s dedication to precision medicine became personal when he uncovered his own diagnosis of severe osteoporosis (ultimately traced to asymptomatic hypercalciuria) at age 38 when he bought a DEXA scanner for Forecast Precision Medicine. This experience strengthened his belief in comprehensive testing and fuels his commitment to helping patients uncover and address hidden drivers of disease.

When he's not in the clinic, Dr. Abendroth enjoys time with his family, playing tennis with his wife, and indulging his passions for cycling and manual transmission cars.
